Ballet – The Foundation of All Dance Styles

At KCDS, we believe that Ballet is the cornerstone of all dance forms. We strongly encourage students to study Ballet alongside other dance classes. Ballet helps improve posture, balance, and coordination, while also building physical strength and mastering classical technique. In addition, it fosters self-discipline, poise, and grace, boosting self-confidence in the process.
Our passionate and dedicated teachers create an inclusive and welcoming environment, where students not only learn new skills but also form lasting friendships.
At KCDS, our highly qualified teaching staff bring years of experience to each class. We offer the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus, an internationally recognised program of examinations and assessments designed to motivate, encourage, and reward students of all ages and abilities. The RAD syllabus offers a structured path for students to progress in their dance journey, celebrating their achievements every step of the way.
Classes for this age group are held on a Wednesday and a Saturday.

Vocational ballet
Advanced Ballet Training

The RAD Vocational Syllabus offers an in-depth study of ballet, focusing on the development of technique, musicality, and performance skills. This rigorous training path is designed for students who have both the physical ability and the dedication to meet the demands of intensive classical ballet, including pointe work.
Vocational classes are held twice a week and run alongside regular grade ballet classes. Students must demonstrate a natural ability, strong potential, and a commitment to the discipline to succeed in this program.
This highly-focused training is ideal for students aspiring to pursue a career in dance or a dance-related field. The syllabus is suitable for students aged 10 and above.
Vocational classes are by invitation only.
PBT & Pre-Pointe
Strengthening Ballet Foundations
📅 Saturdays | 👟 With Miss Rose | 🕓 3:30 - 4:15pm
Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) is an innovative body-conditioning and strengthening program that has been designed to enhance students’ classical technique by focussing on training the muscle memory required in each exercise. PBT helps teachers around the world prepare their students to receive the strength they need to achieve their personal best.
Pre-Pointe training will also be included in the PBT Class for ballet students to further develop and strengthen muscles necessary to go en pointe.
Our teacher Rose, will stress correct alignment and classical technique and will incorporate thera-bands in specific exercises. Each dancer will be assessed for the Vocational Pathway and Pointe readiness - Core Strength, Rotation and Turn Out, Alignment and Balance.
Dancers will also be required to practice their exercises at home.
ISTD Modern

Step up your style with ISTD Modern – a dynamic, expressive dance class that blends jazz, lyrical, and contemporary elements into one powerful package!
Taught by the inspiring Miss Milli, this class focuses on developing:

Dancers will follow the ISTD syllabus, working toward confident, clean technique and the chance to progress through exams (optional but encouraged!).

ISTD Tap
Tap Dance – Rhythm, Technique, and Fun!

Tap dance is a unique blend of skill, technique, and music. These classes are perfect for developing balance, coordination, and rhythm, while strengthening the feet and legs.
Students follow the ISTD syllabus, alongside free combinations that encourage quick thinking and provide opportunities to learn new steps. This level is not for beginners; however, we excel at fast-tracking older students who want to work on developing new skills.
Dancers can choose to take examinations to deepen their tap knowledge, or simply enjoy the class for fun and personal growth.

JAZZ
Dynamic Jazz Dance – Move, Stretch, and Challenge Yourself!
📅 Saturdays 🕓 12:15 - 1:15pm and 1:30 - 2:30pm
If you love to move, this class is for you! It’s an energetic session that works the whole body, focusing on limbering, strengthening, and a variety of jazz progressions and combinations as you travel across the studio floor. This class provides a chance to study modern dance without the structure of a formal syllabus.
Students will focus on flexibility, building strength, and mastering progression techniques. You’ll perfect your kicks, leaps, and turns, while also being challenged with fun, exciting tricks and turn combinations.
Get ready to push your limits in this high-energy, exciting class!
Lyrical
Lyrical Dance – Express Emotion Through Movement

Lyrical Dance is all about expressing emotion through organic movements and unrestricted lines. A fusion of lyrical jazz, ballet, and modern dance, it offers an exciting and dynamic approach that allows students to work through powerful, emotional routines. This expressive style is ideal for theatrical performance.
Lyrical encourages dancers to connect the mind and body, building awareness of the space around them and the sensations within. Students are invited to explore new ways of using their bodies through improvisation, preparing them to break free from traditional practices and create innovative, exciting movement language.
